What clothing do I need for my first competition?
For a competition you need a show jacket, a show shirt, light-coloured riding breeches, dark riding boots and a riding helmet that meets the current safety standard. Women usually wear a stock with the shirt, men a tie.
Gloves are also part of the outfit. Before you start, check the schedule and the German competition rules (LPO) of the German Equestrian Federation (FN), because they specify what is required in your class.
Are there differences between dressage and show jumping in show wear?
Yes, dressage is stricter than show jumping when it comes to colours. Riding breeches are light in both disciplines, usually white or cream. Gloves are white or cream in dressage, in show jumping other colours are also common.
From dressage tests at S level upwards you may wear a tailcoat instead of a jacket. In show jumping you continue to wear a jacket.
Do I always have to wear a helmet at a competition?
Yes, headgear is mandatory at competitions, in every discipline. A riding helmet that complies with the currently valid safety standards is required.
Older helmets do not automatically meet today’s requirements. Before the season, check the certification mark in the helmet. During our helmet fitting service, we check the fit and the standard with you.
How long does white show wear stay presentable?
White show wear stays presentable for the longest time if you wash it promptly after every use and follow the care label. Many show shirts and jackets are now made from technical fabrics that can be machine washed.
Technical fabrics usually do not tolerate fabric softener, because it clogs the pores. For membranes and softshell, outdoor manufacturers recommend liquid detergent and a gentle cycle at about 30 °C.
