What colour must competition breeches be?
At competitions you wear white or cream riding breeches for dressage and show jumping. With these you need a show jacket, a show shirt and riding boots or paddock boots with leather half chaps.
The current German competition rules (LPO) and the schedule for the specific competition are always decisive, because they also set out any possible exceptions.
Can I wear riding tights at a competition?
Generally not, at competitions classic riding breeches are the norm. They have a more formal cut, end just above the ankle and are worn with tall riding boots.
Riding tights made from thin, lightweight material are mainly intended for training and yard work. To compete, you therefore need light-coloured riding breeches in a classic cut.
What do I wear with competition breeches?
With competition breeches you wear a riding helmet, a show shirt with long or short sleeves, a show jacket and riding boots or paddock boots with half chaps. Women usually wear a stock, men a white tie.
In dressage, white or cream gloves are common, for show jumping the colour is more flexible. In high-level dressage tests at S level a tailcoat can be worn. Even the course walk is done in full show wear.
How do I keep white competition breeches looking good for a long time?
Wash white riding breeches at 30 degrees with a mild detergent and do not use fabric softener, which deposits in the fabric. Always follow the care label, especially for breeches with leather patches.
Line dry the breeches. Silicone grip wears out faster than leather or synthetic leather patches, so gentle care will extend its lifespan.
