What colour is allowed for my show jacket?
At national competitions a dark show jacket is the standard, for example in black, navy or dark grey. In show jumping, according to practical experience, coloured jackets are usually only seen in the higher classes.
The binding rules are set out in the German competition rules (LPO) and the schedule. If you are unsure, choose a classic dark model that is suitable for every discipline.
From which level may I wear a tailcoat in dressage?
From S-level dressage tests upwards, you may wear a tailcoat instead of a jacket. In the levels below you ride in a dark show jacket.
Internationally the FEI allows plain-coloured tailcoats and jackets. Striped or multi-coloured models are not permitted there. For your first season at S level your usual jacket is therefore sufficient.
How can I recognise a good show jacket?
A good show jacket is close-fitting but still allows enough freedom of movement in the shoulders and arms. Modern models are often made from elastic, breathable materials and have riding vents at the back.
Unlined jackets with mesh inserts under the arms are light and quick-drying. If possible, try the jacket on in a seated position, because it fits differently in the saddle than when you are standing.
Does a show jacket fit over an air vest?
Yes, there are show jackets that are specifically cut to be worn over an air vest. They offer more room in the upper body and stretchy fabrics so that there is space for the vest underneath.
Always try on jacket and vest together so that both fit comfortably and there is enough room. You can try them on in our shop.
