Sheepskin Saddle Pads
6 products
Sheepskin saddle pads and half pads from Mattes and Kentucky: pressure-distributing, climate-regulating and available in many colours. Particularly high-quality sheepskin saddle pads are impressive because of their natural properties. Genuine sheepskin is breathable, temperature-regulating and can absorb moisture. Many saddlers now recommend sheepskin saddle pads to reduce friction and pressure points. If the saddle temporarily does not fit perfectly, the sheepskin saddle pad helps to protect the horse’s back.

How do I care for and clean a sheepskin saddle pad correctly?
To ensure your sheepskin saddle pad remains soft, supple and functional for a long time, correct care is essential. The manufacturer Mattes recommends washing sheepskin products regularly, because sweat, sebum and dirt can permanently damage the delicate leather fibres. This is how to care for your Mattes sheepskin saddle pad correctly:
Preparation: Close all hook-and-loop fastenings, remove any removable inserts and turn the saddle pad inside out.
Machine wash at 30 °C: Mattes recommends a full wash cycle at a maximum of 30 °C with a normal spin cycle. The washing machine should not be overloaded.
Additional water: Select the “extra water” option or add an additional 3 to 4 litres of water via the detergent drawer about 10 minutes after the programme has started.
Use a special detergent: Use only a suitable sheepskin detergent. Mattes recommends the special detergent MELP, which replenishes natural oils and is specifically designed for the care of sheepskin and leather. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
Gentle drying: Remove the saddle pad from the machine immediately after washing. Mattes recommends tumble drying on a cold air setting or at a maximum of 30 °C. Alternatively, you can dry the saddle pad in a well-ventilated, shaded place.
Reshape: Carefully reshape the saddle pad at regular intervals while it is drying. Avoid direct sunlight and heat from radiators at all costs.
Our care tip: Especially if you use it frequently, regular washing is particularly important, so it is better to wash too often than too little. Only clean sheepskin can develop its natural properties to the full and remain soft and supple for a long time.
