How do I dry wet leather riding boots?
Leave them to air-dry without direct heat, so never on a radiator or by the oven. If leather is dried too quickly and too hot it becomes brittle and fragile, and the boot will not last as long.
If your boots are wet, take out the insole and stuff them with newspaper to absorb the moisture. Only once the leather is completely dry should you apply care products. After waterproofing, the boots should be left to dry again for about 12 hours.
How do I store riding boots correctly?
Upright, in a cool, dry and well ventilated room, ideally with boot shapers. Shapers keep the leg in shape and prevent the leather from collapsing and creasing.
A boot bag also protects against scratches, abrasion and discolouration, for example in the car boot or in a locker. Only pack boots away when they are clean and dry, because mould can form on the leather in a damp environment.
Why do I need a boot jack?
A boot jack lets you take off boots without levering against the heel with the other foot. This protects the heel and the back of the boot, which can otherwise be damaged and start to tear very quickly.
Place one foot on the board, put the heel of the other boot into the cut-out and pull your foot out. This makes taking boots off much easier, especially with close-fitting leather riding boots without zips.
How often should I care for my riding boots?
You should remove coarse dirt after every ride with a damp cloth. More thorough cleaning with care products is recommended about once a week if you use them daily, and about once a month if you only wear them occasionally.
Use a special leather cleaner for this, because household cleaners can dry out leather. Apply care products in small circles from bottom to top and let them absorb completely. Clean zips separately so that sand does not get stuck in them.
