What size riding breeches does my child need?
Children’s riding breeches are usually offered by height in centimetres: size 140 fits a child up to about 140 cm. Measure your child’s height against a wall from the crown of the head to the floor and also compare waist and hips with the manufacturer’s size chart.
Age information is only a guideline because children grow at different rates. The breeches should fit closely without forming wrinkles, because wrinkles rub when riding.
Jodhpurs or riding breeches: which are better for children?
That depends on the footwear: with paddock boots, jodhpurs that reach down to the ankle are suitable, with tall riding boots classic riding breeches that end just above the ankle are best.
For competitions a light-coloured pair of riding breeches with riding boots or paddock boots with half chaps is usually worn later on.
Are riding tights suitable for children?
For training and yard work riding tights are very suitable because they are light, comfortable and breathable. They are generally not worn at competitions.
Pay attention to the type of grip: very sticky silicone grip hardly allows the small micro-movements of hip and thigh that are important for a supple seat. Knee patch breeches allow more freedom of movement, full-seat breeches give more security in the saddle.
Which riding breeches keep children warm in winter?
Winter riding breeches made of softshell with fleece on the inside keep you warm because air collects in the fibres and is warmed by the body. The outer side protects against wind and is often water-repellent.
Experts recommend buying winter riding breeches one size larger. Breeches that are too tight compress the fleece and therefore insulate less well. Thermal underwear under normal breeches is an alternative, but it restricts you more.
