Feed & Care Advice
In our feed corner in the large hall you will find high-quality basic and complementary feed for horses of every performance level, plus expert advice on feeding.
What matters for correct feeding?
Every horse has different needs, depending on age, workload, type of management and health. A competition horse needs a different ration to a leisure pony, a senior needs different nutrients to a young horse in training. The type of management also plays a central role: barn with turnout, paddock track or stabled in a loose box all place different demands on feeding. We advise you on the right combination of basic feed and supplements, tailored to your horse, your training plan and your budget. Competent, honest and without sales pressure.

Frequently asked questions
How much time should I allow for a feed change?
Allow about 7 to 10 days for a change of feed and mix the new feed gradually into the current one. This gives your horse’s digestion time to adapt. Fixed feeding times and forage before hard feed are also helpful. In case of pre-existing conditions or uncertainty it is best to discuss the change with your vet.
How much hay does my horse need per day?
As a rule of thumb a horse needs at least around 1.5 kg forage dry matter per 100 kg body weight per day. This corresponds to about 1.7 kg hay or around 2 kg of the moister haylage per 100 kg. A 600 kg horse therefore needs at least about 10 kg hay per day. The exact requirement depends on workload, body condition and hay quality.
Can I order heavy feed sacks online?
Yes, you can order feed online, although we do not ship orders over 15 kg, you collect these from us in Tangstedt. We send lighter orders within Germany for €4.95 (from €100 free shipping) and also to other EU countries. We also have our pick-up station at the shop: orders placed and paid for on working days by 5 pm are ready for collection from 6 pm.
Does the loyalty card discount also apply to feed?
No, the loyalty card discount only applies to equestrian products, not to feed and care products. We are still happy to advise you on feeding, whether you shop with or without a loyalty card. Talk to us in the shop or call us on +49 4109 252173.
