Helmet Fitting & Personalisation

Safety comes first, style comes second. We advise you on fit, ventilation and safety standards and customise your helmet individually.

Why choosing the right helmet matters

A riding helmet is your most important safety equipment and not a product to economise on. The helmet must fit perfectly. It must neither pinch nor wobble, because only then will it provide its full level of protection in an emergency. Good ventilation ensures comfortable wear even on hot days and during longer training sessions. Current safety standards are just as important. Look for certification to VG1 or EN 1384. These guarantee that the helmet meets tested quality and protection requirements. A poor fit or an outdated helmet can significantly reduce the level of protection. This is exactly where our advice comes in.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between EN 1384:2023 and VG1?

EN 1384:2023 is the current harmonised European standard for riding helmets, VG1 is a test specification that filled the gap after the withdrawal of the old EN 1384 in 2014. The new standard requires, among other things, more shock absorption and mechanical strength and adds an impact test onto an edged anvil. Inside the helmet, look for the CE mark with the standard designation.

Do I have to replace my riding helmet after a fall?

Yes, after a fall involving an impact you should replace your riding helmet, even if nothing is visible on the outside. The helmet protects by allowing the shell and shock-absorbing foam to absorb part of the impact energy and deform in the process. Such damage is often inside and cannot be seen with the naked eye. A helmet that has been previously damaged will no longer provide full protection in the next fall.

How do I measure my head circumference for a riding helmet?

Place a tape measure about one centimetre above your eyebrows and guide it horizontally around the back of your head, just above your ears. The value in centimetres is your guide for the helmet size. Because head shapes differ, not every model in the same size will fit equally well. In our shop in Tangstedt we take a second measurement and you can try several models in peace.

How often should I replace a riding helmet?

How long a riding helmet should be used for is specified by the manufacturer in the instructions for use, often calculated from the manufacturing date on the label inside the helmet. The periods differ depending on the model. Regardless of this, a helmet must be replaced after an impact or if there is visible wear. You should therefore check shell, inner padding and chin strap regularly.

How do I clean my riding helmet properly?

Clean your riding helmet with warm water and a mild soap and leave it to dry at room temperature. You should avoid high heat, so do not place the helmet on a radiator to dry. Solvents or cleaners based on petroleum can impair the level of protection. The care instructions in the manual for your model are always decisive.
