Bucas Fly Protection

Bucas gives the sizes of its fly rugs in centimetres with the matching size in feet, for example 125 cm (5'6) or 145 cm (6'6). Bucas recommends measuring your horse before you buy.

If your horse measures between two sizes, Bucas first recommends the smaller one. A rug that is too large can slip, pull backwards and rub the neck, chest or shoulders. We stock the Buzz Off Full Neck in sizes 100 to 145 cm and the Sweet Itch X Light in 125 to 165 cm. In our shop in Tangstedt we are happy to help you choose the right size.

A Bucas fly mask fits correctly if it sits close without pressing anywhere, especially over bony areas and at the poll. The eyes need enough clearance, and the mask must not be so loose that it can get caught in the field.

According to Bucas, the masks are matched to the sizes of the Bucas fly rugs, but the correct size can vary depending on the shape of the head. You should therefore try the mask on a clean, dry horse. The Buzz Off fly mask has ear pieces, with the Buzz Off Deluxe the ears remain free. Darts keep the mesh away from the eyes.

The Buzz Off is the original Bucas fly rug made from a light, fine mesh fabric that, according to the manufacturer, blocks over 75% of UV radiation. The Full Neck version protects body and neck, an elastic, removable belly flap keeps the rug in place.

The Sweet Itch X Light is cut as an extra-deep sweet itch rug. The upper part is made from a strong polyester fabric, the lower part from airy mesh. A belly flap with three straps protects the belly, an integrated headpiece keeps the neck in place and leaves the ears free.

According to the manufacturer, the Bucas fly rugs Buzz Off Full Neck and Sweet Itch X Light are machine washable at 30 °C. Bucas refers to its own washing and care instructions and offers a suitable rug wash.

The care instructions are also relevant for the guarantee. Bucas grants two years cover against material and manufacturing defects if you have the proof of purchase. Correct care according to the manufacturer’s instructions is a requirement, issues caused by an incorrect fit are excluded. Any guarantee claims are handled through the retailer where you bought the product.

Bucas is an Irish manufacturer of horse rugs, founded in 1981 in Cork. As early as 1982 the company launched a water-repellent turnout rug, and at the end of the eighties waterproof and breathable rugs followed.

The Buzz Off, a fly and UV protection rug for the whole body, came onto the market in 2000, followed in 2012 by the Buzz Off Zebra with its stripe pattern. According to its own information Bucas exports more than 90% of its products. From Bucas we also stock turnout rugs, stable rugs and cooler rugs.
