Effol Horse Treats

Both varieties consist predominantly of bran. According to the Effol product data sheet, the Carrot Sticks contain just over 41% wheat bran and just under 33% oat bran, plus barley, calcium carbonate, beet molasses, carrot pomace, beetroot powder and dried carrots. With Mango-Papaya it is the other way round: oat bran makes up just over 46%, wheat bran just over 36%.

In addition there are apple pomace, beet molasses, barley, maize, dried pieces of mango and flavouring. The molasses content is below 5% in both varieties. Effol describes the snacks as a complementary feed for horses and ponies. For Mango-Papaya the manufacturer recommends cool, dry storage away from light.

The grain-free variety is the Effol Friend-Snacks Grain-Free, which the manufacturer also calls Wellfood Sticks. Effol recommends them for nutritionally sensitive horses. According to the data sheet they consist mainly of rice bran, lucerne green meal, apple pomace and linseed extraction meal, plus calcium carbonate and herbs such as hawthorn, milk thistle, artichoke and dandelion.

Please note: This variety also contains molasses, according to the data sheet around 7.5% molasses and 2.2% beet molasses. If your horse needs to be fed a low-sugar diet for example because of a metabolic disorder, it is best to discuss treats with your vet beforehand. We stock the grain-free snacks in the 500 g pack.

Effol offers the Friend-Snacks in several flavours, as sticks or stars. In the manufacturer’s shop you can currently find Original Sticks, Carrot Sticks, Banana Sticks, Raspberry Sticks, Mango-Papaya, Apple Stars, Mint Stars and the grain-free variety. According to Effol, Carrot and Mango-Papaya are made from cereals with fibre, vitamins and minerals.
