What is Biothane and why are Kavalkade Biothane reins so easy to care for?

Biothane is a lightweight material made of a structural webbing with a plastic coating. According to Kavalkade it does not absorb moisture from the outside, does not go mouldy, is tear-resistant, antibacterial and UV-resistant.

The manufacturer therefore describes the material as very easy to care for. Kavalkade uses Biothane among other things for long reins for groundwork, and in our range you will find Biothane reins with hand stops.

Which rubberised Kavalkade reins are there?

Kavalkade has several reins with rubber for extra grip. The rubberised rolled reins are a slim 16 mm, have five hand stops on each side and bridle hooks. On the Softgrip reins the front is made from oiled soft leather and only the reverse is rubberised.

The Grip reins get their hold from small nubs. If you prefer pure leather in your hand, the Florina soft leather reins are a rolled, particularly soft model, also 16 mm wide with five hand stops.

What length are Kavalkade reins?

Kavalkade marks the length with size codes. PII stands for 120 cm, V for 130 cm, W for 140 cm and WE for 160 cm. The W length of 1.40 m is available for all the models mentioned here.

Not every model is available in all lengths. The Florina soft leather reins, for example, come in PII, W and WE, and the Softgrip in PII, V and W. For comparison it is best if you have the length of your current reins to hand.

How do the Kavalkade triangle reins work?

The triangle reins, also called Vienna reins, are a variation of side reins. They run from the girth between the forelegs through the bit rings back to the lunging roller or saddle. Unlike with side reins the horse can stretch forwards and downwards.

At the sides they give the horse a frame. You adapt them to the horse’s level of training by choosing how high they are buckled on the girth. The Kavalkade triangle reins are made of leather with stainless-steel fittings and are used a lot for lunging and in therapeutic riding.
