Leovet Equine First Aid

For minor skin injuries Leovet mainly offers the First Aid Propolis Gel and the First Aid Zinc Oxide Spray. The gel contains propolis from the beehive whose essential oils and resins are said by the manufacturer to have an antibacterial effect. Leovet recommends it for small cracks, eczema and insect bites, and also for areas where there is pressure from the saddle or girth.

The Zinc Oxide Spray covers wounds and forms a protective film against wound exudate, sweat, urine and water. Leovet does not describe a specific use for mud fever on the product pages. If there are skin problems in the pastern area, your vet should therefore determine the cause.

Cold Pack is a gel with a two-phase effect, whereas Mineral Pack plus Arnica is a clay poultice. After applying Cold Pack you first feel long-lasting cooling, followed by a pleasant warmth. According to Leovet it contains arnica, rosemary, menthol and frankincense resin.

Mineral Pack combines clay with arnica, wintergreen oil and zinc and is intended for hard-working legs. It can be applied smoothly, dries on and then falls off by itself as a crust, and you simply brush out any residue. We stock Cold Pack in 500 ml and 1000 ml tubs, and Mineral Pack in 1.5 kg.

That depends on the individual product, which is why Leovet provides its own overview of doping relevance in accordance with the German Equestrian Federation (FN). According to the manufacturer the current version applies from February 2026 and can be downloaded from the Leovet website.

Before a competition you should check there how the gel, spray or poultice you want to use is classified. The rules of the FN that are valid at the time always apply. If you are unsure you should speak to your vet before using the product.

For hoof care Leovet offers, among other things, Hufol and Hoof Balm. Hufol consists of plant oils from avocado, jojoba, sesame and calendula, is intended to keep the horn of the hoof elastic and is applied with the built-in brush. Hoof Balm is based on prebiotics from yoghurt, beeswax, biotin and coconut and sunflower oil and is, according to the manufacturer, free from mineral oil.

Leovet is a family business from Lahnau that was founded in 1982 by pharmacist and rider Dr Ulf Jacoby. According to the company history the horse care products are still developed and manufactured at the Lahnau site today.

Leovet states that from the very beginning it has used raw materials and active ingredients in pharmaceutical quality. Today the range comprises around 60 products for horse care, from first aid and coat and hoof care through to leather care.
