STÜBBEN Girths

The Equi-Soft has a system of elastic rings that stretch with the horse’s breathing and distribute the pressure evenly. Stübben developed the girth so that the horse can breathe naturally and move freely.

Important: Only use the girth with one of the interchangeable Equi-Soft pads, which are attached with hook-and-loop fastenings and are available separately. We stock the Equi-Soft girth without a pad, as well as versions with neoprene and leather pads. According to Stübben, neoprene stays supple even with sweat and is easy to care for.

Stübben recommends choosing the same length as your current girth if it fits well. Measure from buckle end to buckle end. With the Equi-Soft, the buckles should sit as high as possible on the ribcage when the girth is done up.

For the Neoprene short girth Coolmax, Stübben advises choosing the longer size if you are between two, so that the buckles lie above the elbow. For Equi-Soft girths from 40 to 45 cm you need the small pad, for 50 to 150 cm the large one. Always tighten evenly on both sides and not too tightly.

The neoprene girth combines soft, hard-wearing neoprene with a breathable Coolmax lining that wicks away moisture. It is anatomically shaped and has elastic on both sides, which according to Stübben maintains freedom of movement and makes retightening easier.

For cleaning, wipe the girth with water after riding or rinse it off and let it air dry. It does not need leather care. You should avoid strong cleaning agents and frequent machine washing so that the material remains breathable.

First brush off any coarse dirt, then wipe the leather with a damp cloth and mild saddle soap. With the Equi-Soft, gently lift the elastic rings to clean underneath them as well. Then apply a leather care product and dry the buckles thoroughly.

The neoprene pad can be machine washed on a gentle cycle at 30 °C, in a laundry bag and separated from the girth beforehand. The girth itself is not washed. According to Stübben, leather girths should not be excessively soaked.
