How are Waldhausen spurs attached and what shapes are available?

According to Waldhausen, spurs are attached to the riding boots with a spur strap and should be used deliberately and only occasionally when riding, in order to refine the leg aid. Different ends such as prongs, hammerheads or roller balls have different effects.

Waldhausen offers spurs for women, men and children. The gentle contact spurs have a rounded neck and a non-slip lip, and the children’s spurs are rustproof and come with Perlon straps. At Ahrens Reitsport we also stock the children’s spurs with 15 mm Perlon straps.

Which spur strap and which spur guard are suitable?

Waldhausen offers spur straps made of nylon, leather or patent leather and with decorative stones. The Premium spur strap is an infinitely adjustable nylon strap that is sold in pairs. We stock it in black with silver.

To protect your boots from scratches, there are spur guards, for example made of soft leather. According to Waldhausen they protect the boots and prevent the spur from slipping. In addition there is a boot spur guard and a version made of patent leather.

How long is a Waldhausen dressage whip compared to a jumping bat?

According to Waldhausen, dressage whips are 110 to 120 cm long and are used to activate the horse’s hindquarters. Jumping bats are significantly shorter at 65 to 70 cm and have a flap at the end, that is a wider piece of leather.

Both types of whip are available in many versions, plain or decorated, with leather or plastic handles and also in coloured nylon with reflective strips for the dark. Whips with a lash, on the other hand, are mainly intended for lunging and driving.
