Waldhausen at Ahrens Reitsport
Waldhausen is one of the longest-established names in equestrian sport: in 1836 Anton Waldhausen opened a saddlery in Cologne. Over the generations this developed into an internationally active supplier of equestrian products, which is still headquartered in Cologne, in the Ossendorf district since 2000. The in-house brands E·L·T and SWING are also part of the company.
At Ahrens Reitsport you will find Waldhausen especially for the yard, care and equipment: grooming kit and grooming boxes, headcollars, reins, lunging rollers, bandages, fly rugs and fly masks, buckets and troughs, as well as accessories for stirrups, boot care and competitions. There are also a few clothing items for riders.
Where does the Waldhausen brand come from?
Waldhausen comes from Cologne and was founded in 1836 by Anton Waldhausen as a saddlery. In the Second World War the Cologne production site was destroyed, after which the family rebuilt the business step by step.
From the 1960s onwards the company grew into an internationally known supplier of equestrian products. In 1972 Waldhausen became the official supplier of the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports (DOKR). In 2026 the company celebrates its 190th anniversary.
What does Waldhausen offer?
Waldhausen covers almost everything that horse, rider and yard need. According to the company, the Cologne-based business sells over 12,000 products in more than 70 countries, ranging from riding clothing, saddles, bridles and bits to rugs, leg protection, grooming kit and stable equipment.
Alongside the main brand, the in-house brands E·L·T (riding fashion) and SWING also belong to the company. Our focus is on practical accessories for everyday yard work, lunging and care.
How does a sweet itch fly rug differ from a normal fly rug?
A sweet itch fly rug protects significantly more of the body than a simple fly rug. On the Waldhausen PROTECT sweet itch fly rug the neck and shoulder area are made of elastic, breathable technical fabric, while the rest of the body is covered with a fine-mesh material with belly flap and tail flap.
Double front fastening, large shoulder gusset, tail cord and leg straps keep the rug in place. If your horse suffers from sweet itch, please discuss the treatment with your vet.
