What is the difference between Bucas Power Cooler and Shamrock Power?
The Power Cooler consists of one layer of Stay-dry fabric and is a lightweight all-round cooler for drying off, transport, competitions and the stable. The Shamrock Power is a heavier cooler made from two layers of Stay-dry with an antibacterial lining, which Bucas recommends as a cooler rug, travel rug and lightweight stable rug.
According to the manufacturer, the outer of the Shamrock Power repels bedding when the horse lies down. It is also available as a Full Neck with a neck cover that is lined with Dermo-care fabric and held in place by an elastic browband. We stock both models, as well as the Shamrock Power Full Neck in black and silver.
What size do I need for a Bucas cooler rug?
Bucas recommends measuring the horse from the middle of the chest over the highest point of the shoulder to the back of the hind leg. You then use this measurement to choose the closest size from the table, and the decisive factor is always the horse’s actual measurement.
Bucas gives the sizes in centimetres and in feet, for example 145 cm corresponding to 6 foot 6 inches. For models with S, M, L and XL, Small corresponds to 125, Medium to 135, Large to 145 and XL to 155 cm. If your horse is between two sizes, Bucas tends to recommend the smaller one, because a rug that is too large can slip or pull backwards.
How do I wash a Bucas cooler rug?
Bucas rugs can go in the washing machine at a maximum of 30 degrees on a gentle cycle. Do not use fabric softener, let the rug air dry and do not put it in the tumble dryer or take it to the dry cleaner.
For products with waterproof fabric Bucas recommends using only its own Rug Wash, because household detergents can attack the coating. For the Shamrock Power the manufacturer also states 30 degrees and the Bucas care products. Store rugs that you are not currently using in a dry and well ventilated place.
Can I use the Bucas cooler rug under another rug?
Yes, according to Bucas, Power Cooler and Shamrock Power have attachment points so that you can use them under Bucas turnout rugs or stable rugs. Bucas explicitly regards coolers, liners and quilted rugs as an additional insulating layer under turnout rugs.
The Stay-dry lining wicks moisture away from the coat so that, according to Bucas, a wet or freshly washed horse stays dry. Both models have shoulder darts, a magnetic front fastening at the chest, internal cross surcingles and a fillet string that prevents the rug from blowing up.
