Bucas Fly Rugs

Bucas recommends measuring from the centre of the chest, straight over the shoulder to the back end of the quarters, then choosing the rug size that is closest to this measurement. In the Bucas size chart, for example, a measurement of 198 cm corresponds to size 145 and a measurement of 206 cm corresponds to size 155.

Bucas gives the sizes in centimetres and additionally in British feet and inches: 145 corresponds to 6 foot 6 inches, 155 corresponds to 6 foot 9 inches. This is why our Bucas rugs are labelled with dual sizes such as 145-6,6 or 155-6,9.

All three are fly rugs made from fine mesh, but they differ in features and weather protection. The Buzz-Off & Neck has a detachable neck cover, an elastic, detachable belly flap and silk-feel lining at the mane, withers and shoulders. On the Buzz-Off Rain & Neck the upper part is also waterproof and breathable, while the lower part is made from Buzz-Off mesh. It is intended for rainy summer days.

The Freedom fly rug has a fixed neck cover, an overlapping T-bar front closure, cross surcingles, leg straps and a tail flap.

Bucas bases the zebra design on research showing that insects avoid zebra stripes because the contrast of black and white disorients them. The Buzz-Off Zebra Range is made from particularly fine-mesh, lightweight material and, according to the manufacturer, is intended to protect against flies, insects and UV radiation.

The Buzz-Off Rain Zebra combines the zebra mesh with waterproof panels over the back and kidney area so that sensitive areas stay dry even on damp days. An elastic browband keeps the neck cover in place while grazing.

Bucas recommends washing rugs at no more than 30 °C, because higher temperatures can impair the performance of the rug. Before washing, close all hook-and-loop fastenings and clip the cross surcingles together so that they do not flap about in the machine. For detergent Bucas recommends its own Rug Wash.

Waterproof rugs such as the Buzz-Off Rain models should be reproofed after washing. According to Bucas, small rips or holes can be repaired with a repair kit.
