What do RR, RN and TR mean on Mountain Horse riding boots?

The two letters stand for shaft height and calf width. The first letter indicates the height (Short, Regular or Tall), the second the width (Narrow, Regular, Wide or Plus). RR therefore means Regular/Regular, RN Regular/Narrow and TR Tall/Regular.

Mountain Horse offers boot models such as Xanadu and Sovereign in many of these combinations, the Xanadu for example from Short/Narrow to Tall/Narrow. This means riders with very slim or fuller calves will also find a shaft that fits.

What size do I need in Mountain Horse riding boots?

Alongside your shoe size, two values from the size chart are decisive: the height (A) and the calf circumference (B) in centimetres. For the Sovereign in Regular/Regular, for example, size 38 corresponds to a height of 46 cm and a calf circumference of 35 to 37 cm.

The values differ from model to model. The Wild River in Regular/Regular in size 38 has a height of 45 cm and a calf circumference of 35 to 38 cm, or 32 to 35 cm in Regular/Narrow. Mountain Horse also explains how to measure your leg in a video.

Which Mountain Horse leather riding boots are waterproof?

According to the manufacturer, Wild River and Cumberland are waterproof. The Wild River boot is made from supple, oiled full-grain leather, has a bamboo lining and, thanks to the gusset construction, keeps up to one third of the shaft dry. A steel shank provides stability.

The Cumberland is a country boot with a full-grain leather foot and a soft nubuck shaft. Its membrane reaches to the middle of the shaft and the non-slip all-terrain sole is designed for different surfaces.

What is the difference between the Mountain Horse Sovereign and the Xanadu?

Both are elegant riding boots made from selected premium leather, but they focus on different features. The Sovereign is designed for a soft, close-fitting shape, with a ShockX insole, hardened steel shank and a YKK zip at the back.

The elastic insert on the Sovereign is on the outside next to the zip, which is intended to improve fit and durability. The Xanadu has press-stud fastenings at the top and bottom, a spur rest, the Vertycore sole and a treaded outer sole that is suitable for the stirrup.
