What is special about the Equitus bridles from Schockemöhle?
The Equitus bridles are anatomically cut and are intended to relieve sensitive areas on the horse’s head. According to Schockemöhle Sports, the curved noseband runs past the main facial nerve, leaves important veins and arteries free and reduces pressure on the poll. There is also a softly padded headpiece with plenty of room for the ears and an extra wide, curved browband.
The cheekpieces are attached to the noseband and can be adjusted using stud fastenings. According to the manufacturer, the Equitus models are not intended for lunging.
How do Equitus Alpha, Beta and Delta differ, and are they suitable for competitions?
All three models share the anatomical lines, but differ in appearance and features. The Alpha is the plainer original model. The Beta has a wider noseband for a classic dressage look and a browband with lots of crystals. The Delta has a noseband that is about 35 mm wide and comes without a flash strap.
According to the manufacturer, Alpha and Beta are FN-certified, therefore compliant with the German competition rules (LPO) and also approved for international FEI competitions. At Ahrens Reitsport you will find the Beta and the Delta from the Equitus range.
What is the difference between the Schockemöhle Malibu and Stanford bridles?
Both have an anatomically shaped special noseband and a headpiece that is adapted to the horse’s anatomy and is intended to relieve the cheekbone and poll. The Malibu is rolled and has a curved browband with a large crystal chain. The Stanford is sportier with flat side parts and comes with two browbands: a plain leather one and a narrow one with a row of crystals.
Both bridles have cheekpieces with hook studs and a throatlatch that is adjustable on both sides. If you are looking for the matching double bridle: Schockemöhle describes the Venice double bridle as the counterpart to the Malibu.
What sizes do Schockemöhle bridles come in and how do they fit?
Schockemöhle Sports states that its items generally come up true to size and for details refers to the size charts on the product pages. The Equitus Beta, for example, is offered by the manufacturer in sizes VB, WB and WB XL.
At Ahrens Reitsport you will find the Schockemöhle bridles and double bridles in VB and WB, and the Equitus Delta additionally in an extra wide WB size. Before buying, it is best to compare the measurements of noseband, browband and cheekpieces with a bridle that already fits your horse well.
How do I look after a Schockemöhle bridle with a crystal browband?
For bridles and reins Schockemöhle Sports recommends a spray soap, because it dries out the leather less than traditional saddle soap, followed by a conditioning but not overly greasy leather lotion. The manufacturer advises against leather oil, as it can saturate heavily used leather and cause it to stretch unintentionally.
You should not bend crystal browbands beyond their shape. Leather care products can leave a film on the stones, so clean them with a soft cloth or a soft brush, if necessary with lukewarm water and mild soap. Then dry thoroughly and check the settings from time to time.
