Uvex Riding Helmets

The right size is determined by your head circumference, which according to Uvex you measure about a finger’s width above your eyebrows. You will find the size in centimetres on the sticker at the back of the helmet.

The models cover different ranges: perfexxion III is available with five inner padding sizes in three shell sizes from 52 to 61 cm, exxential III comes in the ranges 52 to 55, 55 to 57, 57 to 59 and 59 to 61 cm, and ixxo active in XS (53 to 54), S (54 to 56) and M–L (57 to 59 cm). According to the manufacturer, the current Uvex riding helmets perfexxion III, exxential III and ixxo active are tested to the European riding helmet standard EN 1384 in the 2023 version and additionally to the American standard ASTM F1163-23.

When buying, check the standard information inside the helmet, because older models may be certified to earlier versions of the standards. During our helmet fitting in our shop in Tangstedt we check the fit and standards together with you and show you the differences between the models.

The main difference lies in the construction: perfexxion III, ixxo active and exxeed active are hardshell helmets with an outer plastic shell and a lightweight EPS core. exxential III on the other hand is manufactured using in-mould technology, in which the EPS inner shell and polycarbonate outer layer are firmly bonded together.

perfexxion III has an extended shell at the back of the head and washable pads with memory foam. According to Uvex, exxential III weighs around 467 g and has a cut-out for a ponytail. Uvex describes ixxo active as an all-round helmet for the whole family. All of them use the 3D IAS system for width and height adjustment and the monomatic one-handed fastener.

MIPS stands for Multi-Directional Impact Protection System, an additional low-friction layer that sits close to the head inside the helmet. According to Uvex, in an oblique impact it can move by 10 to 15 mm and is intended to reduce the risk of injury from rotational forces.

Uvex offers MIPS as separate model variants, for example for exxential and ixxo. You can recognise whether a helmet has MIPS by the suffix in the model name. The Uvex helmets that we stock in this category do not have this suffix. Please contact us if you are specifically looking for a MIPS helmet.

After every fall or impact the helmet must be replaced, even if nothing is visible on the outside, because it has already absorbed the impact energy and no longer gives full protection in the same area. Uvex also recommends replacing helmets three to five years after first use, depending on use. If unused and stored under optimal conditions, the maximum service life is eight years from the date of manufacture.

For care, remove the pads and wash them with a mild detergent at 30 °C. Clean the outer shell with lukewarm water and a mild soapy solution, without any solvents.
