Waldhausen Bits

That depends on the bit width. For the current stainless steel models from Waldhausen, bits up to 12.5 cm wide are 14 mm thick, from 13.5 cm width they are 16 mm. The rings each measure 7 cm in diameter. The hollow, single-jointed loose ring snaffle is 16 mm thick in all widths, the single-jointed bradoon is 14 mm with 5.5 cm rings.

Waldhausen describes stainless steel as durable, rustproof and neutral in taste, with only a slight influence on salivation. For our Waldhausen bits the thickness is given in the product name, for example 16 mm or 18 mm.

Cupris bits are made from a nickel-free copper alloy with a copper content of 62%, which according to Waldhausen stimulates chewing activity and salivation. The rings are made from stainless steel. The Cupris loose ring snaffle has an olive-shaped centre piece, is 18 mm thick and has rings with a diameter of 7 cm.

In addition, Waldhausen offers the Cyprium line, a copper-zinc alloy with an increased copper content that many horses accept well. We stock the Cupris loose ring snaffle. The best way to find out whether copper is suitable for your horse is through our bit fitting with Julia Lühr.

Happy Mouth bits have a mouthpiece with a smooth plastic surface and a permanent apple flavour which, according to Waldhausen, is readily accepted by horses and encourages chewing. Rings and connecting parts are made from stainless steel.

The Happy Mouth loose ring snaffle is 20 mm thick with 65 mm rings, in widths 10.5 and 11.5 cm it measures 16 mm. The Happy Mouth eggbutt is 20 mm thick with 70 mm rings. We stock Happy Mouth loose ring snaffles with a thickness of 16 mm and 20 mm.

Yes, Waldhausen offers both in stainless steel. The single-jointed Baucher is 16 mm thick, has rings with a diameter of 5 cm and an upper shank of about 5.5 cm. The short dressage curb bit is 14 mm thick with an upper shank of about 4.5 cm and a lower shank of 5 cm.

In our shop in Tangstedt, the focus for Waldhausen is on loose ring snaffles and eggbutt bits as well as a bradoon. If you are looking for a curb bit or a Baucher we are happy to advise you in person, and Julia Lühr also offers bit fitting in the shop or at your yard.

Yes, Waldhausen offers bitless bridles, for example the Star bitless bridle and the X-Line Supersoft bitless bridle. According to the manufacturer, both act like a Scawbrig over the lower jaw and are intended as a change from a snaffle bridle for well-schooled horses.

Noseband and headpiece are softly padded, the reins are included. The X-Line also has an anatomically shaped headpiece and stainless steel fittings. You will find the Star bitless bridle in our Bridles category.
