Do I need to observe a withdrawal period for Lexa Devil’s Claw before a competition?
Yes, for Lexa Devil’s Claw the manufacturer specifies a withdrawal period of 7 days under the anti-doping and medication control rules (ADMR) of the German Equestrian Federation (FN). For the combined product Devil’s Claw + Ginger the manufacturer’s information still refers to the 2019 ADMR, which means it is out of date. You should therefore also base your decision here on the current FN list.
According to Lexa, neither product is suitable for pregnant mares. Since doping rules can change, you should check the current list of the German Equestrian Federation (FN) before every competition. If there are problems with the musculoskeletal system, your vet should first clarify the cause.

Which Lexa supplements need special attention if you compete?
According to the manufacturer, some Lexa products have withdrawal periods. For the herbal mixes Respiratory as well as Liver and Kidney, Lexa specifies 2 days under the FN anti-doping and medication control rules (ADMR) as of January 2026, Gastro Akut should not be fed on competition days because of the aloe vera.
In contrast, Lexa describes Mag pro Sport with organically bound magnesium and B vitamins as compliant with doping rules for the competition season. Lexa generally asks you to observe the national and international anti-doping regulations. The current version always applies.
How do I feed Lexa herbal mixes?
You feed Lexa herbal mixes dry over the hard feed in the manger. For the Respiratory herbal mix Lexa recommends 30 to 50 g daily for large horses and 15 to 30 g for ponies and small horses, one measuring cup holds about 20 g.
Alternatively, you can prepare the herbs as a tea: pour half a litre of boiling water over 30 g, leave to steep for around 15 minutes and feed warm or cooled. According to the manufacturer, the Respiratory mix is not intended for pregnant mares. The amount for each variety is printed on the packaging.

Lexa electrolytes: liquid or powder?
Both compensate for electrolyte losses after heavy sweating, but they differ in composition and handling. According to Lexa, Electrolytes liquid is absorbed quickly because it is in liquid form and can easily be given when you are out and about, for example at a competition.
Vital Electrolytes combines the electrolytes with additional vitamins and organically bound trace elements and is intended to support the muscle metabolism. We stock both versions. In every case, make sure that your horse always has access to fresh water.

Who produces Lexa horse feed?
Lexa is a brand of Xaver Scheule GmbH from the Unterallgäu region. The company was founded in 1923 by the chemist and druggist Xaver Scheule and production and administration have been based in Derndorf since 1992.
Lexa produces feed for horses and livestock and promotes production in Germany and formulations that are developed jointly with vets. In addition to supplements, the range includes mineral feed, hard feed, herbs and oils.

Which Lexa mineral feed is suitable for my horse?
That depends on the ration, age and workload. Basic Mineral is cereal-free and intended to provide a basic supply for all breeds. Herbal Mineral is aimed at horses in light to medium work, Sport-Mineral at sport horses with a cereal-rich ration from 3 kg of cereals per day.
For specific life stages there is Junior-Mineral for foals and young horses up to 4 years of age and Senior-Mineral from around 18 years of age. Amino-Mineral with amino acids is designed for western breeds and horses that are building muscle. If you are unsure, our feed advice service will help you.
How much Lexa mineral feed does a horse need per day?
For Basic Mineral, Herbal Mineral, Sport-Mineral, Senior-Mineral, Derma-Mineral and Amino-Mineral, Lexa recommends a daily amount of 20 g per 100 kg bodyweight. For large horses this is 90 to 150 g per day, for small horses and ponies 40 to 80 g.
For Junior-Mineral the amount depends on age: large horses receive 50 g as foals up to 12 months, 70 g from 12 to 24 months and 90 g from 25 to 48 months per day. Adjust the amount to the rest of the ration and, if you are unsure, ask your vet.
What is Lexa Derma-Mineral intended for?
Derma-Mineral is intended for horses with sensitive skin, for example if they are prone to itching, mud fever or sweet itch and during moulting. Lexa supplements it with additional zinc, manganese and selenium, a high proportion of organically bound trace elements and 50,000 µg of biotin.
It also contains diatomaceous earth, seaweed, bentonite and black cumin, linseed and hemp oil. A complementary feed does not replace treatment, so you should always have skin problems examined by your vet. According to Lexa you should not feed Derma-Mineral at the same time as orally administered macrolides.
