Keralit at Ahrens Reitsport

Keralit is a German specialist for hoof care. The man behind Keralit Veterinär- und Pferdetechnik GmbH is Dipl.-Ing. Florian Ruff, who began studying horn as a material in depth during his biomedical engineering degree in Stuttgart because of hoof problems in his own horses. Keralit has been selling hoof care products since the early 1990s and, according to the company, works together with farriers and vets.

At Ahrens Reitsport you will find hoof care products from Keralit such as Huf-Festiger, Huf-Elast, Strahl-Liquide and Undercover, as well as ointments for horse care.

Who is behind Keralit?

The man behind Keralit is Florian Ruff, a qualified biomedical engineer. Problems with the hooves of his own horses led him to study hoof horn more closely in laboratories and at the materials testing institute at the University of Stuttgart.

This resulted in the first Keralit products, which have been sold since 1991. In 1995 the company was founded as a GmbH. Keralit focuses on a small number of specifically developed products instead of constantly changing ranges.

What do I use Keralit Huf-Festiger for?

Keralit Huf-Festiger is applied to the bearing edge, sole and white line in order to strengthen the horn and make it more hard-wearing. According to the manufacturer it is suitable for both barefoot and shod horses.

Keralit lists, among other things, severe horn wear, brittle hoof walls and loose shoes as areas of use. If your horse has hoof problems, please always clarify the cause with your farrier or vet. A care product does not replace professional treatment.

What helps against a soft, foul-smelling frog?

For softened, foul-smelling frog clefts Keralit offers Strahl-Liquide. The liquid solution adheres well and is intended to counteract horn breakdown by neutralising influences from the bedding such as ammonia.

Dry, clean bedding and regular picking out of the hooves are also important. If the frog smells strongly or your horse is lame, your farrier or vet should take a look, because thrush can go deeper.
