Petrie at Ahrens Reitsport
Petrie is a Dutch family business that goes back to Jacobus Petrie. He began making riding boots a good 150 years ago, and today the company is run by the brothers Gerald, Alwin and Hans-Paul Petrie. Production takes place in the company’s own workshop in Brummen, with many of the roughly 280 work steps carried out by hand. Petrie specialises in made-to-measure boots, but also offers standard-size models for dressage, show jumping and all-round use.
At Ahrens Reitsport you will find Petrie leather riding boots, including classic dressage models, as well as winter riding boots for the cold season.
Where do Petrie riding boots come from?
Petrie riding boots come from the Netherlands and are produced in the company’s own workshop in Brummen. The family business originated a good 150 years ago with Jacobus Petrie and is now run by the brothers Gerald, Alwin and Hans-Paul Petrie.
According to the company, Petrie tests new models for function and wearing comfort by having ambassadors from the sport try them out before they are added to the collection.
How does the Petrie made-to-measure process work?
The Petrie made-to-measure process begins in the equestrian shop. This is where your legs are measured and the design is put together in the manufacturer’s online configurator. The measurement form and sometimes a footprint are then sent to the workshop in Brummen.
There the pattern is created on the computer. The leather is checked for flaws, cut, sewn into the boot shaft and connected to the sole, then finally the boot is shaped to the leg. You can track the progress via QR code and collection takes place in the shop.
How can I customise a Petrie riding boot?
With Petrie you choose the model, leather and style yourself. There are many options for the top edge, for example with Swarovski stones, rhinestones or perforated designs, as well as special leathers such as Croco, Lizard, Python or Ostrich.
Technical extras include, for example, an elastic insert, a knee support or a sheepskin lining. Depending on the model, there is a front or back zip fastening, lacing or a buckle, and also a slim and a classic fit.
How do I care for Petrie leather boots correctly?
The most important thing is to clean the boots straight after riding, because sweat, sand and skin oils attack the leather. A damp cloth is enough, although a leather cleaner is better. Care for the boots even if you do not wear them for a longer period, otherwise they dry out.
Dry wet boots in a normal room, never on the radiator and not in a closed tack locker. Patent leather only needs a damp cloth, nubuck a suede brush. You should brush out the zips regularly.
