Samshield at Ahrens Reitsport
Samshield is a French equestrian brand founded in 2003 by Sam Maloigne, a rider and former motocross racer. In 2006 the first riding helmet came onto the market, developed together with the show jumpers Nicolas Delmotte, Simon Delestre and Kevin Staut. Today the 1.0, 2.0 and XJ helmet lines are part of the range, as well as show and training clothing.
At Ahrens Reitsport you will find Samshield riding helmets, for example Miss Shield and Shadowmatt, as well as show jackets, show shirts, shirts, riding breeches for women and hats.
Where does Samshield come from?
Samshield comes from France and was founded in 2003 by Sam Maloigne. As a former motocross rider, he wanted to build riding helmets that were modelled on high-quality motorcycle helmets.
The first Samshield helmet appeared in 2006. Later, the 2.0 and XJ helmets were added, along with clothing, bags and accessories. According to the company, the helmets are developed in France and the brand operates its own workshop there.
Which standards do Samshield riding helmets meet?
Samshield states that its helmets are certified to the EN, ASTM, SEI and PAS 015 standards. The exact standard that a model meets is listed in the declaration of conformity and in the helmet itself.
In addition, Samshield has the helmets tested by the French test laboratory CRITT with impact, pressure and penetration tests. For competitions, please make sure that the standard of your helmet complies with the current requirements of the German competition rules (LPO). We are happy to advise you on this in our helmet fitting.
What is the difference between Miss Shield, Premium and Shadowmatt?
Miss Shield, Premium and Shadowmatt are versions of Samshield helmets that differ mainly in the peak and the outer finish. Miss Shield has a longer, wider peak, inspired by classic women’s hats. Shadowmatt stands for a scratch-resistant, matt lacquer finish, Premium for a top section made of Alcantara.
All variants use the structure of the respective helmet line with ventilation, semi-rigid chinstrap and replaceable liners. Colours and details can also be configured.
Do I need to replace my Samshield helmet after a fall?
After a fall, the helmet must be checked, because the inner protective shell deforms permanently on impact. Samshield offers the Restart Service for this: for up to five years after purchase, the inner shell can be replaced while the outer shell is retained.
