KANNE stands for fermented products made from wholemeal bread. The Kanne family has run a bakery in Westphalia since 1904, and master baker Wilhelm Kanne III began experimenting with the fermentation of bread grains in 1967. In 1981 he founded Kanne Brottrunk GmbH, and in 1985 he launched Kanne Bio Fermentgetreide, which is still used in animal feeding today.

What is Kanne Fermentgetreide?
Kanne Bio Fermentgetreide is a feed material in powder form made from fermented organic wholemeal bread. Rye, wheat and oats from organic farming are broken down for this in a two-stage lactic acid process.
According to the manufacturer, this creates vitamins, enzymes and aromas. The Fermentgetreide is certified organic and QS approved. Thanks to the roasted aromas of the bread it is readily eaten by many animals.
How much Fermentgetreide does a horse get?
Kanne recommends 80 to 100 g of Fermentgetreide with every meal, every day. You can feed it dry or moistened on top of the normal feed.
Regular feeding is important, and the product can be fed all year round. For horses with illnesses or special nutritional requirements, please agree the ration with your vet. Our feed consultation service is happy to help you.
What are Kanne Energiebarren?
Kanne Energiebarren are a crunchy, energy-rich complementary feed based on baked goods and liquid Fermentgetreide. The manufacturer recommends a handful per day.
The bars contain around 53 g of starch per 100 g and are therefore more of a treat than a staple feed. For horses that tend to develop metabolic problems you should only use them sparingly and after consulting your vet.
