Olewo at Ahrens Reitsport
Olewo is a manufacturer based in Uetze in Lower Saxony that specialises in dried vegetables as supplements, especially carrots and beetroot. The products are available for horses, dogs and small pets. The Beetroot Chips consist of shredded, gently dried beetroot without additives or flavourings, the Carrot Chips of 100 percent carrots.
At Ahrens Reitsport you will find Carrot Chips from Olewo in 3 kg sacks and Beetroot Chips in 2.5 kg packs.
What do I feed Olewo Carrot Chips for?
Olewo Carrot Chips are a low-energy vitamin supplement to forage and, thanks to their sweetness, stimulate the appetite. They consist of 100 percent carrots, with no added feed oil.
The manufacturer recommends them among other things in winter when your own yard’s feed provides few vitamins, for older horses and for hardy types that need a tasty, light supplement. Carrots provide natural beta-carotene.
How many Beetroot Chips does a horse get?
Olewo recommends about one to two handfuls of Beetroot Chips per day for horses, which is around 100 g. You can feed the chips dry or leave them to soak in water for about 15 minutes.
Once soaked, beetroot stains very strongly. Slight discolouration around the mouth and a change in droppings are therefore possible and, according to the manufacturer, harmless. Beetroot contains, among other things, iron, copper, zinc, manganese and folic acid.
Are the Olewo chips pure natural products?
Yes, both varieties consist only of the respective vegetable. The beetroot is shredded and gently dried without additives or flavourings, and the Carrot Chips also contain no added feed oil.
Olewo points out that the nutrient contents can vary slightly depending on harvest and weather. The chips are suitable as a supplement or reward but do not replace a balanced basic and mineral feed.
