Hans Melzer Horse Equipment at Ahrens Reitsport
Hans Melzer Horse Equipment is a brand of leather tack centred on bridles and reins. The range includes complete bridles with different nosebands, individual browbands, reins, stirrup leathers and breastplates, mostly in black or brown with silver or brass fittings.
At Ahrens Reitsport you will find Hans Melzer bridles with drop, flash or Swedish nosebands, decorative browbands, web and rubber reins with stoppers, stirrup leathers as well as training aids and breastplates. In our shop in Tangstedt you can try on bridles and get advice on adjusting them correctly.
Which nosebands do the Hans Melzer bridles have?
Hans Melzer bridles are available with drop nosebands, flash nosebands and Swedish nosebands. There are also wide nosebands, for example in patent leather with white padding, as well as individual nosebands that you can swap in.
Which style suits your horse depends on the shape of its head, the bit and its level of training. The safest option is to try it on the horse. In our shop we are happy to advise you, and through our after-sales service adjustments are also possible.
What are reins with stoppers good for?
Stoppers define fixed hand positions so that you can more easily find and maintain your chosen rein length evenly. Hans Melzer reins have nine stoppers on each side.
You can choose between web reins and fine rubber reins. Rubber reins sit securely in your hand, even when it is wet or the horse is sweating. Web reins are light and uncomplicated to care for. You are welcome to come into the shop and feel both for yourself.
What bridle size does my horse need?
The correct bridle size depends on your horse’s head, not only on its height. Hans Melzer bridles are offered in sizes from Shetland through Pony and Thoroughbred to Warmblood, with individual models also available in extra large.
If your horse is between two sizes, individual straps such as browband or cheekpieces, which can be swapped separately, will help. Bring your old bridle with you for comparison or measure from poll to corners of the mouth and the width of the forehead.
