Where does the brand Kieffer come from?
Kieffer comes from Munich, where a coach and carriage building business was founded in 1848. At the end of the 19th century the focus shifted to leather goods.
Since 1912 the company has borne the name Georg Kieffer and has concentrated on saddles, bridles and riding equipment. Over three generations the Merker and Conzet families shaped the company. Today Georg Kieffer GmbH is based in Munich, and in 2025 it relaunched its brand presence.
What is special about Kieffer Ultrasoft bridles?
Ultrasoft is Kieffer’s bridle range made from particularly soft leather with generous padding. On the Chamèa model the noseband is softly padded and the headpiece has an ear cut-out that is intended to relieve sensitive areas.
The bridle is available in Thoroughbred and Warmblood sizes, and the noseband is 40 or 45 mm wide. Kieffer uses vegetable tanned leather and stainless steel fittings for its bridles.
Which girths does Kieffer offer?
Kieffer offers short girths for dressage saddles and long girths, including versions in cotton mix, in leather or with sheepskin. The Cotton Contour has roller buckles with an elastomer band, and the Ultrasoft leather girth is anatomically shaped.
The Air-Tex Lambskin Plus has a removable liner made from real sheepskin. The sheepskin adds some bulk and you should take this into account when choosing the girth length. At Kieffer the lengths range from 50 to 145 cm.
How do I care for Kieffer leather and sheepskin girths?
Care for leather regularly with a leather care product. Kieffer offers saddle soap, leather balsam and an active foam leather fluid, for example. For the Ultrasoft bridles the manufacturer recommends the leather fluid.
You should wash the sheepskin liner of the Air-Tex girth at no more than 30 degrees with a wool detergent containing lanolin on a gentle spin cycle. Then leave it to dry in the air and brush out the fleece.
